Maximum capacity in the fewest rack units. The Dell PowerVault ME5284 packs 84 bays into 5U with dual-active Intel Xeon controllers — built for backup-to-disk, archiving, surveillance and HPC scratch, scaling to 336 drives with dense expansion.

The Dell PowerVault ME5284 is the high-density member of the ME5 Next Gen family, a 5U array with 84 drive bays for organisations that need maximum raw capacity in the fewest rack units — backup-to-disk, archiving, video surveillance and HPC scratch storage. Unlike the 2U ME5 models it is dual-controller only, with no single-controller option, which removes a single point of failure at the cost of configuration flexibility. Both controllers run Intel Xeon processors with 24GB of total cache and are hot-swappable for continuous availability. The chassis takes 84 3.5" bays that also accept 2.5" carriers, mixing NLSAS, 10K SAS and SSD media including FIPS self-encrypting drives, and requires a minimum of 28 drives to start. With ME584 dense expansion enclosures the array scales to 336 drives.
