Dell Precision 7960 Rack
Product Overview
The Dell Precision 7960 Rack is a 2U rack-mounted workstation built for organizations that need desktop-class workstation performance in a data-center-ready form factor — ideal for big data analysis, rendering and simulation, AI model development, and remote/secured compute environments. At its core, the system supports up to two 4th or 5th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, ranging from 8-core Xeon Silver up to 64-core Xeon Platinum configurations, with each CPU rated up to 350W and clock speeds up to 4.2 GHz. Memory scales up to 8 TB across 32 DDR5 DIMM slots (registered ECC only), with speeds up to 5600 MT/s, giving it the memory bandwidth needed for large in-memory datasets and simulation workloads. Graphics and compute are handled by up to three 300W professional GPUs (NVIDIA or AMD), making it suitable for GPU-accelerated rendering, CAD/CAE, and AI/ML workloads alongside traditional CPU-bound tasks. Storage is flexible, with support for up to 8x 2.5" or 3.5" SAS/SATA/NVMe drives (front-accessible and lockable) plus up to 8x M.2 NVMe PCIe SSDs via Dell's Ultra-Speed Drive PCIe cards, backed by a PERC H755 hardware RAID controller. The chassis is built for enterprise reliability, with dual hot-swap power supplies (800W, 1100W, 1400W, or 2400W options), advanced cooling, and remote management through iDRAC9 (Express or Enterprise) alongside Dell Optimizer for Precision. Networking options range from standard 1GbE up to 25GbE via OCP3 card configurations. The system supports Windows 11 for Workstations, Ubuntu 24.04, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.3, and carries ISV certifications for popular professional applications. Measuring 2U (17.08"–18.97" height depending on measurement point, 28.93" width, 30.44" depth) and weighing between 46–65 lbs depending on configuration, the Precision 7960 Rack delivers workstation-grade performance designed to live in a rack rather than under a desk.
